TMJ (temporal-mandibular Joint) massage is used to help alleviate discomfort in the jaw and surrounding muscle. People with TMJ disorders often experience pain that can be in the form of headaches, jaw tightness from grinding as well as sometimes referring pain into the neck and upper back. 1. Jaw Pain TMJ massage helps release tightness and tension in the jaw muscles from grinding and clenching that commonly occurs when sleeping (bruxism). 2. Headaches/ Migraines Tightness of the jaw muscles can often radiate up towards the head which may cause tension headaches or migraines. The aim of this massage is to relax the muscles around the jaw and neck which will reduce these symptoms. 3. Jaw Mobility TMJ massage releases muscle tension which in turn helps to improve the range of motion in the jaw. If you experience clicking or popping sounds when moving the jaw this treatment will help. After the treatment you should notice opening and closing the mouth to be easier and for there to be less discomfort or stiffness. 4. Neck and Shoulder Tension TMJ issues are often accompanied by tension in the neck, shoulders, and upper back. This massage can also target these areas which provides relief from associated discomfort. 7. Sleep Better It is very common for people to grind their teeth at night. This can be caused by many variables for example when under stress, having a sleep disorders like Sleep Apnea, drinking too much caffeine or having a misaligned bite.
